BAFTX would like to extend congratulations to Queen Elizabeth II – officially Britain’s longest reigning monarch acceding Queen Victoria.

Elizabeth came to the throne 63 years ago, in 1952, at the age of 25, upon the death of her father, King George VI. She has reigned through more than five decades of enormous social change and development.

The changes during the queen’s reign have been immense. An empire has become a Commonwealth. Respect to nobility has been displaced by the glorification of celebrity. Formality has given way to familiarity. Smartphone and social media have replaced mass media, which has come a long way since 1952 when the bright future of media was regarded as the magic of television.

Who would of thought at the beginning of her reign the queen would take part in a stunt in which she appeared to jump out of a helicopter with James Bond at the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic Games!

Queen Elizabeth II is loved and admired throughout the world, not just by the commonwealth that she serves, but also by people of all cultures and nationalities.
